Plan Ahead
- Apply for financial aid and scholarships early
- Consult academic advisors
- Get everything in writing!
- Validate passport and apply for visas when required
- Take care of medical concerns – shots, checkups, insurance while out of the country, medications
- If you will be gone for an extended period of time, determine how you will do banking and pay bills
- Talk to veteran travelers and exchange students about what to expect

Field Study in Finland, Zimbabwe, Holland and Poland
College of Education students with majors in Special Education or Elementary/Secondary Teacher Training are eligible to gain knowledge and learn about education programs and services from an international perspective. Students can arrange for three weeks of student teaching by observing, teaching and learning about the educational system of a foreign country. Germany: Global Perspectives in Management
This course is designed to provide an exploration and analysis of current telecommunication and web-based technology and an opportunity to experience the foreign environment by participating in a technology-mediated cross-border project. Ghana and South Africa: Two Faces of Africa
This program provides students with a first-hand experience of African history, culture and contemporary life-styles. The theme of the program is African Liberation and Development - signified by the experiences of Ghana and South Africa, the first and last African nations to be liberated. The study tour is approximately four weeks, but a two-week component is an option. Both undergraduate and graduate students are eligible. Moscow Theatre
This four-week travel study is located primarily at the Moscow Art Theatre School. This program is open to serious theatre students and is available for undergraduates and graduates. It is principally designed with the needs of students in acting, directing or scenography, but will also appeal to those with broader interests in theatre history, technical theatre or theatre management. Fish Lake, Michigan
The Biological Sciences Department will offer summer field study opportunities at the Fish Lake Station of the Kresge Environmental Education Center in Lapeer, Michigan. Courses will be offered to both undergraduate and graduate students during three, three-week sessions: June-August. Students may commute or stay in the comfortable dormitory. Higgins Lake, Michigan
The Higgins Lake Environmental School was established 52 years ago to promote a better understanding of the complex relations between humans and environment. Thousands of teachers, youth leaders and others have participated in this valuable program. This program is co-sponsored by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality. Undergraduate and graduate students are eligible. New York, NY
This course offers both undergraduate and graduate students a unique opportunity to gain a behind-the-scenes look at the inner workings of the fashion and retail industries in New York City. Site visits are planned to fiber manufacturers, designer showrooms, design studios, historic costume collections, museum exhibits, major retailers, trade publications and buying offices, in order to give the students hands-on experience and career training.
